NECK Pain? Do NOT Stretch It! #neckpain #neck #headaches #exercise #physicaltherapy

Stop stretching if you have neck pain. Try this nervous system trick instead.

Tight muscles aren’t always the problem. Sometimes it’s your nervous system misfiring, and that’s why the pain keeps coming back.

💥 Why stretching doesn’t stick
If your neck hurts every time you move it or use your arms, the muscle may not be “tight” because it’s weak or short. It may be tight because your nervous system keeps turning it on when it shouldn’t. Stretching and strengthening won’t fix that if the signal itself is the issue.

💡 What’s actually happening
Your nervous system decides which muscles turn on for every movement.
When that system goes off-track, it recruits muscles that have nothing to do with the task.
So every head turn, reach, or lift keeps re-triggering the same painful muscle.

🛠️ The nervous system reset
First, gently tighten the muscle that hurts for about 10 seconds, then fully relax it.
Immediately repeat the movement that usually causes pain.
This teaches your nervous system the difference between “on” and “off,” allowing the muscle to relax deeper instead of guarding.

👉 Bonus technique
Lightly tap the tight muscle while moving through the painful motion.
This helps disrupt the faulty signal that’s keeping the muscle tense.

Give this a try and let me know how it feels!
